Tactical K9 continues quarterly maintenance with the Gallup K9 Unit out of New Mexico.  Once again we continue to challenge this unit.  We are always impressed on the upkeep of this unit when we are not there,  it makes our job easy but challenging to push them to higher levels.

Tactical K9 would like to thank K9s4COPS (Kristi Schiller) for all her work as well as members of her team for making this class possible.  This organization usually sticks with donating suitable canines to Departments in need.  This was the first time they actually funded advanced training for K9 Teams.  Multiple units in the Houston area were selected for the training.  An outstanding class – once again thanks!

Tactical K9 conducted a 5 day E-Collar Workshop hosted by the Hayward Police Departments K9 Unit.  The majority of the class consisted of Hayward teams but we did have a fine team from San Francisco and San Jose Police Departments.  Much thanks to Mark Ducker (Hayward OIC K9 Unit) who did the lions share of the work to make the class happen.  The teams were dedicated and learned much during the fast moving class.

Tactical K9 conducted another Basic E-Collar workshop for VLK during their scheduled patrol classes throughout the year.  This 5 day workshop offers Basic Instruction for E-Collar use.  The teams were given a tremendous amount of information and hands on training during this packed 5 day course.  Each team went far with their understanding and advancement toward E-collar understanding and off lead control.

TK9 CONDUCTS 5 DAY E-COLLAR WORKSHOP FOR THE RICHMOND POLICE DEPARTMENTS K9 UNIT – JUNE 2015

IMG_4025

Tactical K9 was requested by the Richmond K9 Unit OIC (Sergeant Nathan Lanso) to conduct a 5 day E-Collar Workshop.  We soon discovered this was a very no-nonsense unit with much field experience.  With that being said the class excelled quickly as we pushed them hard in the final days.  The teams all advanced substantially with this new found off lead control.  There was also discussion about TK9 possibly doing their maintenance training throughout the year.  More to follow we are hoping.

TK9 CONDUCT MAINTENANCE TRAINING FOR GALLUP POLICE DEPARTMENTS K9 UNIT – AUGUST 2015

IMG_4686

Tactical K9 conducted another assigned K9 training workshop for this fine unit.  Our contract for maintenance training is very unique – we do not visit once a month for one day of training.  We have found this does not work – a unit needs more time to identify and problem solve their unique issues.  This cannot be done in one day.  Our 5 day workshops do the trick.  In fact each team assists in identifying issues as well as problem solving with their own team becoming much more self sufficient.  Depending on once a month training simply does not work and surely does not advance a unit.  We usually conduct (4) to (5)  five day workshops throughout the year.

IMG_4677

Tactical K9 conducted another 5 day E-collar workshop for K9s4COPS – this class was hosted by the Harris County K9 Unit.  Sergeant Chris Moore (Harris County K9 Unit OIC) organized and drove this class.  Much thanks to Chris and Sergeant Mike Thomas for their hard work.  This was a great class with some dedicated folks and good teams to work with.  Once again thanks Kristi Schiller for your support.

TK9 PARTICIPATES IN 3-DAY K9 CONFERENCE IN WESTMINSTER MASSACHUSETTS SEPTEMBER 2015

Westminster K9 Conference Boston

Tactical K9 was requested to instruct at their annual K9 conference just outside of Boston.  Mike Goosby and CEO Doug Roller instructed.  We lectured and worked in field scenarios focusing on control and proper E-collar use.  It was an honor to teach for these fine teams and much thanks to Donna Melot who made this conference happen. We only wish we could have spent more time there.
